The Memorial’s collections are formed primarily of donations. During the 1960s, we were able to collect a large volume of documents, objects and materials thanks to the support of not only public institutions but also private individuals, many of whom were veterans. For example, it is thanks to the former aviator Jean Salis, and his son, that the museum possesses a Nieuport aircraft and a model of a Fokker. Another way in which patrons assist us is by financing the restoration of items from the collection. The Marius Berliet Automobile Foundation covered the full cost of restoring a Berliet CBA truck from its own collection and then entrusted it to Verdun Memorial.
