We welcome school groups from primary and secondary schools to our three sites and to the Verdun Battlefield throughout the year, to assist you in passing on the history of the Great War and the Battle of Verdun. On the battlefield, which has become a symbol of Franco-German reconciliation, we bring history to life. Read on to find out more about the options available for your visit.
Pre-booking form
All group visits must be booked in advance. We recommend that you make your booking as early as possible in order to secure the date and time of your choice. To make your booking, please complete the pre-booking form with information about your group and the visit you wish to book. Our bookings department will contact you within one week of receiving your request to finalise the arrangements for your visit.
Through the different visit options we offer, we aim to make history and culture more accessible and familiar to children and young people. We will be delighted to plan your visit with you to ensure your group gets as much out of it as possible.
Explore the Verdun Battlefield’s three major sites with your group independently. The pathway around the Memorial includes numerous information panels, detailed exhibit labels, audiovisual displays and interactive kiosks. You can also download workbooks suitable for use by primary and secondary school students of all ages. Allow around an hour and a half for your visit to the Memorial.
At the key battlefield sites of Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux, information panels immerse you in the history of the battle. Leaflets are also available. Allow around an hour to visit the inside of each fort.
Book a guided tour for your group to explore the collections at the Memorial and learn all about the history of Fort Douaumont and Fort Vaux during the battle. These tours of the interiors of the sites can be booked separately as part of our various visits.

Verdun Memorial and the forts do not have a lunchroom for schools. School groups can eat lunch outdoors on the sites. The Memorial cafeteria offers packed meals. Please request them when booking your visit.
Eat in: packed meals can be eaten in the cafeteria – €7.50 per student
Take away: packed meals to be eaten outdoors at the Memorial and the forts – €6.50 per student
Cash, credit or debit card (Visa, Eurocard-Mastercard) or cheque. Public sector payment orders and vouchers are accepted with the prior agreement of the bookings department. There are no ATMs inside the sites or on the Verdun Battlefield.
When booking a visit, you undertake to ensure that your group complies with the code of behaviour for school visits. Visitors must not touch the exhibits, or shout or run inside the Memorial or forts. There is no facility for leaving school bags in the Memorial or the forts during the visit. Only lead pencils may be used during the visit.
