Intellectual property and hyperlinks

Intellectual property and copyright

This website is protected in France by intellectual property law (Code de la propriété intellectuelle) and, in other countries, by current international copyright agreements. Users are formally prohibited from reproducing all or some of the site by any means whatsoever unless they have been expressly authorised to do so by the Editor. The breach of any copyright pertaining to the website constitutes a counterfeiting offence punishable in France by three years’ imprisonment and a fine of 300,000 euros under Article L.335-2 of the Code de la propriété intellectuelle.

In particular, all rights relating to the illustrations and photographs contained in the website shall, unless otherwise indicated, belong to the Verdun Memorial Museum or, in a few cases, to other entities or persons (indicated in the caption by the words “Photo: name of photographer, date”) from whom the Verdun Memorial Museum has obtained the necessary authorisations for their use. If an error occurs in the attribution of a photographic credit, please let us know. Unless otherwise indicated, photographs are published with all rights reserved by the photographers.

The brand and logo included in this site have been registered in the name of the Verdun Memorial Museum. The brand and logo shall not be reproduced, totally or in part, without prior authorisation from the Editor, Thierry Hubscher. This condition is set out in Articles L.713-2 and L.713-3 of the Code de la propriété intellectuelle.

However, the following are authorised in principle, without the need for prior explicit authorisation:

– Quotations, if the author’s copyright is maintained by an indication of his/her name and the source (Mémorial de Verdun). Quotations should be short. Length is assessed by comparison with the publication from which they are taken and by comparison with the publication in which they are to be included. A quotation should be used to illustrate a point but should not compete with the publication from which it has been taken. Multiple quotations, creating an anthology, shall be considered as a derivative work and, as such, subject to prior agreement from the author or the author’s beneficiary.

– A hyperlink may be created, subject to the substantive condition that the link should open a new page in the browser and that the page reached via the link should not be not embedded in other pages, notably by means of frames, so that the page/pages displayed as a result of the said hyperlink is/are displayed under the Verdun Memorial Museum URL.

In all other cases, in particular:

  • If you wish to display the Verdun Memorial Museum logo,
  • If the contents of the Verdun Memorial Museum website are to be included in the browsing of your site, notably by means of frames,
  • If access to the pages containing the link to the Verdun Memorial Museum website is not free of charge,
